Frequently asked questions
Who sets the gold price in Nepal?
The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA) publishes the official buying and selling rate every working day, usually in the morning. This page shows that rate and refreshes it every 30 minutes.
How much is 1 tola of gold?
One tola is 11.664 grams. Gold in Nepal is priced per tola and per 10 grams; both are shown above.
What is fine (छापावाल) gold?
Fine or hallmark (छापावाल) gold is 24-carat, 99.9% pure gold. Jewellery (तेजाबी) gold is usually slightly cheaper and shops add making charges and taxes on top.
Why is the price different at my local shop?
The published rate is the base rate. Shops add making charges, VAT and their own margin, and buying-back rates are lower than selling rates.
